We may have lost Piranha Bytes, but at least Eurojank RPG Greedfall 2 is still on the way, announcing early access will begin in September-

Watch On

Piranha Bytes, creators of the Gothic, Risen, and Elex series, was recently closed by parent company Embracer. That’s a shame, but there’s still one studio out there carrying the torch for ambitiously janky mid-budget European RPGs, and that’s Spiders.

The French studio responsible for games like Steelrising, The Technomancer, Bound By Flame, and Mars: War Logs is currently developing a sequel to its 2019 RPG Greedfall, which was set in an 18th century-esque colonial fantasy world and was basically a Eurojank version of a BioWare game. Greedfall 2: The Dying World has just announced it will be coming out in early access on September 24.

Greedfall 2 is actually a prequel, beginning three years before the original game. This time, rather than playing a diplomat who stands apart from the setting’s factions, you’ll be playing a native of Teer Fradee who is torn from their home and transplanted to the war-torn and plague-ravaged lands of Gacane.

One complaint about Greedfall was that its quest design involved a lot of backtracking and fetching across areas that looked and felt quite samey, so hopefully the sequel can improve on that. And hopefully early access can help cut down on some of the bugginess, though frankly if it wasn’t at least a little rough around the edges I suspect it would lose some of its hardscrabble appeal.

Greedfall 2: The Dying Worlds will be available on Steam. A gameplay video is due in August, and a community livestream, including an updated roadmap, before its September 24 early access release.

Nvidia is selling its GPUs to help speed up the process of… making GPUs-

Among the slew of technical tidbits from Nvidia’s GTC online keynote this week was a new software tool for accelerating the process of manufacturing chips. Known as cuLitho, it speeds up the process of designing the masks used in lithography by a claimed 40 times.

Nvidia says leaders in the chip manufacturing industry TSMC, ASML, and Synopsys have all signed up for cuLitho. Of course, cuLitho runs exclusively on Nvidia’s GPUs, which in turn are manufactured by TSMC.

So, that means Nvidia commissioning TSMC to manufacture GPUs, only to sell them straight back to TSMC in order to be used for cuLitho. Nice work if you can get it.

Nvidia says an installation of around 4,000 of its H100 Hopper server GPUs can replace 40,000 CPU-based servers, do the same work 40 times faster, all while using nine times less power.

The work in question is designing the photomasks used in the lithography process. In simple terms, chips are made by shining light through a patterned m…

One determined modder managed to cram Elden Ring’s hardest boss into Sekiro, and she hardly seems to stand a chance-

It always kind of felt like Elden Ring’s super hard megaboss Malenia was a transplant from Sekiro, FromSoftware’s fast-paced, parry-focused ninja action game. Her aggressive swordplay could just about do laps around my sluggish Tarnished—she almost seems to demand a Wolf’s precision.

Enter the Land of Reeds mod from Last孤影众 (Gūyǐng zhòng), a Chinese gamer primarily active on Bilibili. The mod seems to be a strange sort of gaiden remix of Sekiro, changing multiple areas and, most notably, porting three iconic bosses from other FromSoftware games into Sekiro, including the now iconic rot valkyrie herself, Malenia.

I’m not sure I’d recommend playing the mod itself in its current state. Its Nexus page seems to host an out-of-date version, with multiple YouTube showcases of the project instead linking to a Google Drive directory I can’t personally vouch for that also lacks installation instructions, and I’ve seen mention of s…

More restricted military intel ends up on the War Thunder forums-

A lengthy War Thunder forums discussion about the history and performance of the F-16 Fighting Falcon has resulted in—you guessed it!—yet another public leak of restricted military intel.

This latest incident is actually a little different from all the previous leaks of classified intel on the War Thunder forums, which is pretty funny when you think about it: This happens often enough that we can refer to “all the other times these guys committed acts of treason” and be 100% serious about it.

In case you’d forgotten, or missed it altogether the first time around, here are the other cases where someone decided to make a point by revealing classified military secrets in a videogame forum:

  • War Thunder fan says tank is inaccurate, leaks classified military documents to prove it
  • War Thunder fan leaks classified military documents to win an argument about tanks—again
  • More classified military…

Real Yakuza use a gamepad so you should nab this Xbox Controller at over 30% off to play the best series the right way-

Despite any misgivings one might have about Microsoft’s latest few consoles, the quality of its Xbox controller is undeniable. This only got better when the Core edition launched, complete with textured grips, different triggers, a new D-Pad and that snazzy capture button. Though I might be a keyboard and mouse kind of person when I boot up Steam, I made sure to whip out the gamepad when playing and replaying Yakuza—as one should.

If you have yet to take on Yakuza or have been playing it the wrong way, Xbox’s pretty fantastic controller is just 2(two) cents above its lowest-ever price at Amazon—coming in at just under $44.

From the intricate and precise combos of a fighter, to the uncut majesty of Lawn Mowing Simulator, some games just feel better on a controller. In Yakuza’s case, minigames and its combat system are designed specifically for controllers so there’s just something off about using a keyboard.

Samsung’s new game-streaming projectors combine together like Voltron-

In the past few years projectors have come ahead by leaps and bounds. Previously a cinema staple, great for an immersive movie-watching experience, if not a particularly crisp one, they haven’t been great for gaming. But with modern projectors often spitting out high-resolution images with decent frame rates and relatively low latencies, they’re becoming a much more viable option for gaming.

Samsung has clearly noticed this, with the refreshed version of The Freestyle projector making some changes with games in mind. The Freestyle 2023 adds Samsung’s Gaming Hub, an inbuilt app that gives you native access to game-streaming services. Xbox Cloud gaming is the big one, but the hub also supports Nvidia GeForce Now among other services.

This is perfect for a portable little guy like The Freestyle, which boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution for up to about 100-inch displays. Assuming the specs are largely the same as the original, you’re also only looking at HDR as opposed to…

The best Helldivers 2 weapons

September 24, 2024: We updated the weapons list based on the big buffs made in patch 1.001.100. The weapons which have changed tier are the R-36 Eruptor, CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, and the AR-23P Liberator Penetrator.

Puzzling out the best Helldivers 2 weapons is a trial-and-error process. While you have Stratagems that’ll let you call down heavy weapons, there are also lots of primaries to pick from when sorting your character’s loadout. As you progress through the game and gather Medals, you’ll be able to unlock even more guns in the Warbond, including assault rifles, shotguns, and even energy weapons.

Some of these are really good, and some of them, well, they’re not worth the effort or the Medals it’ll cost you to claim them. Here I’ve laid out my rankings for the best weapons in Helldivers 2. Since there are now also seven premium war bonds in the g…
